OHS & Fire Safety in 2026: New Trends & Practical Tips

Robert Paskovský

Even the field of OHS faces new challenges in the current year. Be it evolving industrial technologies or the pressure to digitize work. We’ll advise you on how to tackle them.

Read the top 4 OHS tips & trends in 2026:

Is your documentation in order?

Don’t forget to check if your internal OHS materials comply with the current rules regularly. Pay special attention to the documentation for your machinery, namely its operating & safety instructions and manufacturer’s documentation. In practice, unfortunately, many companies don’t care about these materials enough. And that creates a problem when an issue or a workplace accident happens.

Your OHS documentation needs to be always available. And it’s useful to have it not only in a paper form but also in an electronic one, which is much easier to find. To store digitized documents, you can use internal systems, such as Lumnio.

Golden rule: standardize

Well-prepared documentation also comes in handy during employee training—be it OHS training or any other. Therefore, we recommend creating standard operating procedures (SOPs). These serve as instructions for your technicians to fulfill their work duties in a correct and safe way.

Tip! See more on SOPs in a case study of Wienerberger, a producer of building materials, that uses standard operating procedures as a part of its internal documentation.

Preventive maintenance, checklists & protocols

Another major OSH topic in industry is prevention. Typically, this includes regular inspections and checks of machinery and its technical state. To keep these inspections organized, we recommend using a pre-prepared checklist created and approved by a person in charge. Such a checklist can then be conveniently stored in a digitized form in Lumnio or other company software. Thanks to checklists, your preventive maintenance gets faster, and your employees don’t forget anything. Moreover, if they write the maintenance logs in your system, the rest of the team can easily find them during the following check.

During regular checks, make sure to document all service actions. Don’t forget to fill in a maintenance log and add photo documentation from the site of the service intervention when necessary. This ensures you’ll always have all the maintenance data in case you need it in the future.

Lower the risks

Many problems in practice are not caused by the team’s lack of knowledge. More often, ill-conceived improvisation by the employees or “DIY” solutions that don’t comply with your company’s operational regulations are to blame.

Therefore, we recommend reducing the risk of such an approach by providing your technicians with remote assistance. This can take many forms—from a senior colleague’s contact info to a knowledge base with documentation or a computerized maintenance management system. Whichever variant you choose, it’s important that your employees know where to ask when they are unsure what to do.

Lumnio is a great application using augmented reality and artificial intelligence to increase the productivity of service and maintenance staff. My job is to make sure that as many companies as possible can see this.
